It’s Time to Manage Time

Time Management for Pre-Teens and Teens

Viewing this video gave me a Charles Dicken’s, “A Christmas Carol” moment.  The ghost of ‘Time Management Future’ visited me and showed me a vision of what my step-daughter’s life will look like in another 10-20 years.

As parents (and step-parents, no matter how evil we seem sometimes), it’s our responsibility to teach, guide, and correct our children’s behavior – all without judgment, of course as you’ll remember from a previous post.  We have to make sure that they have the skills to fend for themselves in the world.

Of course, being a time-freak myself, I personally think there is no better skill to teach a child than time management; to be on time and to keep one’s commitments.  However, I know I sometimes get over-zealous in my time management message delivery… (with the word ‘sometimes’ being a gross understatement.  Translation: I’m a time-nag.)

time-management-for-kidsWhile researching this piece, primarily as a model for my own pre-teen, I came across a site that says everything I would want to tell her, and it does so in a far better way than any lecture I could deliver.

I came away from this site armed with lots of great material.  This article, “Time Management – You vs. the Clock” is aimed at pre and young teens.  I hope it helps you as much.  (just click on the blue link for the site)

I plan to use the above video plus all the material in the Time Management website as a solid base for discussion with my 12-year old.  I’ll report back in a week or so to share the results.

Also, be sure to check out the online stop-watch (link below) to help you keep track of your computer time and activities.  It’s a great tool!
