Is the Law of Attraction Really Just a Distraction?

This Distraction Was the Law of Attraction

Mike Dooley Law of Attraction not a distraction

Dale Dauten, author of a piece that recently appeared in the AZStarNet rattled my attention… yes, it was an annoying distraction to me.  Or was it the Law of Attraction at work yet again in my life?

As my step-daughter Ambrosia readily answers when given a choice, “BOTH!”

You see, Dale was indirectly questioning the validity of “law of attraction” by citing one of my favorite mentors, Mike Dooley of “Infinite Possibilities” fame.  Mike advocates that people let go of the cursed hows and focus exclusively on what they want so intensely that they feel they already have it in their lives.  In Dale’s article, Mike is quoted as saying, “Actually, the less you think about how you can get something, like money, love, or laughter, . . . the faster it will come. Dwell upon the end result, not the hows.”

Yup, that’s Mike alright.  I own his program, “Infinite Possibilities” and swear by it as a work that makes clear my place and purpose in this world.  I also subscribe to Mike’s daily “Notes from the Universe” message service and own a couple of his books as well.  Suffice it to say, I like Mike!

The Law of Attraction Can Never Be a Distraction from the Truth

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been a seeker of truth for most of my life.  As early as I can remember, perhaps from age four, I questioned everything.  Most of the time, I was fed pat answers by parents, teachers and especially religious leaders that left me more frustrated and hungrier than ever for the truth.

When I finally happened upon Mike Dooley’s work in 2002, I had already spun around this planet 49 times, enough to gain some pretty valuable, life changing experiences.  If anything, all “Infinite Possibilities” and other “Law of Attraction” materials did for me was validate those experiences.  In fact, I ultimately concluded that the Law of Attraction IS the truth.  It works for everybody, everywhere, all the time.

I reflected deeply on my past.  I noticed the coincidences.  I even experimented with current situations at the time and watched in total amazement as the simple truths emerged whenever I consciously applied more of the ‘Laws of Attraction’ to my life.  (BTW, Law of Attraction principles, like gravity work whether you are conscious of them or not.  They are the LAW!)

Ignorance of the Law of Attraction is the Distraction

I applaud Mr. Dauten on his attempts at observation.  He correctly identified that change always involves a two-step process, first with the want or desire for something followed by the ‘how’ to get that thing.

Where he falters in his grasp to understand the entire process is in his believing that the person who desires something is also the same person who has to come up with the ‘how’ to get it.  This is not true… absolutely NOT!

Time and time again in my own life I’ve been moved by uncomfortable circumstances enough to intensely desire change.  (Hey, who hasn’t?) Most people will tag these types of situations with labels like tragedy, misfortune, catastrophe, or other terms with equally negative connotations.  Law of Attraction simply refers to them as contrasts.

My greatest opportunities have always appeared originally disguised as ‘problems’.  Discomfort grows in direct proportion to the perceived size of the problem.

All my mulling, dwelling, stewing and even fuming over my ‘frustrations’ only served to increase the intensity of my desire.  However, the very moment I let go of the dilemma and fixed my attention on the dividend, that’s when the magic of the invisible ‘how’ helpers kicked in.

The ‘answer’ to my prayers always showed up in the most unusual and delightful way, most often through another person, whether directly or through a book, song or movie.

Focus On the Law of Attraction Without Distraction

An interesting thought just occurred to me.  In the old days before digital photography, you had to bring in your negatives to the photo lab.  I never bothered with the process itself; I just trusted that when I dropped off my negatives, I’d get some nice pictures back in a few days.  (See, I told you I was old – I predate digital photography!)

That’s the best example I can think of as to how life works.  Bring in your negatives to be developed, knowing – trusting – that in a short period of time, you’ll get some great results.  You know what you were aiming at when you shot the picture.  That’s what you expect to get returned.  The best part is, you don’t have to know or understand the process.

Even the greatest inventors give credit to something beyond themselves for their inspiration and creation.  Indeed, the hows of my life have always been provided, as promised by the Bible and current ‘Law of Attraction’ wisdom.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
(Proverbs 3:6)

“Dwell upon the end result, not the hows.” (Law of Attraction 2:day)
