Joe Slugger Lands Largest Contract in Professional History
…and now for the rest of the story.
Hey, even if you’re not an avid sports fan, you’re still more than likely aware of what happens to the vast majority of these sudden multi-bajillionaires. Their once meteoric careers mysteriously crash. They produce far below everyone’s expectations. They certainly don’t come anywhere near measuring up to the boatloads of cash they are now guaranteed, no matter how poorly they perform.
- Many rabid fans will turn on Joe Slugger and rant, “Ah, da money went to his head. He’s spoiled now, just like da rest of dem bums!”
- Pop-psychologist types will offer in Joe’s defence, “Maybe he has worthiness issues. He just can’t handle the pressure and responsibility of being that visible.”
- Still others will say, “He worked his tail off to get where he is. He burned himself out. His best years are behind him now.”
There are as many possible reasons for Joe’s ‘failures’ as there are fans. However, no matter what the truth is, Joe Slugger is having a mighty challenge breaking through his breakthrough… just like the rest of us.
So What’s YOUR Excuse?
Oh, you thought this was going to be another ‘Rich-and-Famous’ bashing? High visibility, especially in today’s wide open, instant and transparent media, make people like Joe Slugger easy and vulnerable targets. But with the slightest amount of soul-searching, each one of us – myself especially included – will discover that breaking through our own breakthroughs is a universal challenge.
- Take the time you literally starved yourself to fit into that suit or dress, only to gain back all your lost weight… and then some.
- Or those heady courting days when you and your new-found love vowed to make everyday a day in paradise forever and ever! How quickly did you settle into a comfortable rut – or worse – once the ‘commitment’ was made?
- How about my personal favorite – you scrimp and save and eventually claw your way out of debt. One day, you are jumped by the ‘Must-Have’ demons who steal every ounce of the precious little common sense you have to begin with. BAM! Back into the debt hell-hole you go.
As I mentioned in a previous post, “You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first, then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.” Yes, we ALL have our challenges breaking through our breakthroughs. Compared to high-profile folks like Joe Slugger, just be glad you ONLY have a nagging wife or an I-told-you-so husband.
“Yeah, But”… STOP Right There!
In this day and age of highly trained and skilled personal care professionals and even some excellent and effective self-help guidance, there is no excuse… NO EXCUSE that cannot be dealt with and overcome. Not only CAN you break through your breakthroughs… you MUST! Some things in life are supposed to be challenging and hard – that’s what makes them worthwhile. How proud would you be of your skills and talents if they were easy and everyone else could do them?
- Did you really think you could stop working after getting the big promotion; the ideal weight; the dream partner; out of debt? Get real! Even maintenance requires effort. One Universal Law states, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.”
- Do you have self-esteem and worthiness issues? Who doesn’t? Join the club! Oh, we’re all masquerading around, trying to appear to others like we’ve got our acts together. The truth is, all of us at some time or another need help. Maggie is my primary sounding board. Having studied self-help for nearly four decades, I also am fortunate to have surrounded myself with some of the best self-help mentors and practitioners ever to walk the planet. In fact, creating success in your world is easier than you think with FREE assessments.
- Are you burned out? Did you give so much of yourself getting there that you really have no more to give? Let’s take a lesson from a marathon runner.
It’s Not Only the Pace But What You Do After the Race
Here are some common sense concepts about marathon running that you can apply to breaking through your breakthroughs:
- Not everyone can or should run a marathon. Some people have the desire but no aptitude. Others have the aptitude but no desire. You need BOTH if you want to make it to the finish line.
- Should you have the desire and aptitude enough to decide to go for it, know that you will need to train and condition yourself for the long run (pun intended).
- When running a marathon, know and stay within your limits. You may be tempted to chase the early jackrabbits. You may be trapped in by a sea of turtles. Either way, you’ll have to free yourself of distractions and work out your own pace.
- When you cross the finish line, you may be tempted to collapse on the ground. WRONG! Watch the elite athletes being interviewed at the Olympics.
- Within minutes after their record breaking runs, they have gathered their breath enough to speak in front of a world-wide audience. That’s impressive enough as it is.
- The elite runners talk about where they might have done even BETTER during the course of the race. AND, they almost always talk about the NEXT event.
- Right after the interview, they get into their self-care program with more cool-down exercises and stretches - OMG, they just finished a marathon… what’s with MORE exercises?
- Of course, they also properly hydrate and nourish themselves.
- Most importantly, they surround themselves with friends and admirers who further encourage and support their prodigious talents.
And THAT’S how your break through your breakthroughs.
- There is no ‘getting there’. Remember, even maintenance requires effort.
- Got issues? Get help. So much of it is FREE.
- Burned out? Rest if you must. Even change courses if you have to. There’s an old cartoon showing a person climbing the ladder of success, only to find out the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. These days, the average person will probably change careers 10-20 times anyway. Get another ladder… quickly!
It’s a great feeling to get breaks in life. However, far too many people stop at getting the big break and wonder later what went wrong. Real success comes when you learn how to break through your breakthroughs. When you do that, I guarantee you’re gonna Love That Feeling!
